David Laycock and Glenn Ackroyd launched EweMove’s franchise in 2014.
David had spent years heading up the Customer Services division at Barclays and Glenn had been a property lawyer, spending his days unraveling the mess left behind by high street Estate and Letting Agents.
They quit their jobs to fulfill their dreams of becoming property investors.
After amassing significant property portfolios David and Glenn realised they were spending too much time managing the issues caused by sales and letting agents. All of the agents were using second-rate systems and had chaotic processes, which inevitably led to miscommunication and problems.
Technology had moved on but the industry hadn’t, so David and Glenn pooled their resources and experience to develop a better solution.
In 2014 they created the UK’s first local hybrid agency with both a national operations centre and local property managers right around the UK.
The idea was simple. To create a new kind of estate agency which had local property experts and unparalleled customer service at its heart.
Unlike traditional estate agents who’d specialise in either sales or lettings, EweMove agents would become experts in both sides of the equation, allowing them to thrive in any housing market.
The key focus was to deliver great customer service and with the aid of new technology, to make the customer journey simple and hassle free.

Making the EweMove dream a reality wasn’t easy. David and Glenn had to develop their own IT system from scratch (it’s called ‘Ewereka!’) which would be the foundation for their customer support, allowing people to book viewings online or submit tenancy applications in the middle of the night, when most traditional agents were fast asleep.
Whilst their swanky IT has won them numerous awards for innovation, the most important factor in EweMove’s success is their culture, which stems from bringing on franchise partners who have to be great ‘people people’.
Each franchisee is a real property expert and is devoted to serving their local community. They hold their customer’s hand from start to finish and become their trusted property friend. This ethos has resulted in almost half of EweMove’s business coming from personal recommendations.
EweMove’s success has not gone unnoticed. On the back of growing from zero to over 90 franchised branches throughout the UK in two years, David and Glenn were named National Entrepreneurs of the Year in 2015.
Whilst they’ve sold and managed thousands of properties, EweMove never judge success by the number of properties listed. Their focus is on providing an exceptional customer experience because they believe that business success is just a byproduct of delivering great service.

Some might call them ‘C’ level executives, but they look after our flock of franchisees, so we prefer to call them Shepherds…
David Laycock – CEO (Head Shepherd)
Never call him ‘Dave’ and always bring him a large mug of tea, filled to the very top. He founded and co-owns EweMove with Glenn.
He spent his corporate life at Barclays with a natural flare for IT and systems and a passion for customer service. His roles at Barclays included overseeing Barclays first websites before heading up their Customer Services department.
David is lead Project Manager on EweMove’s bespoke multi-award winning Ewereka! property management software. It’s the secret sauce behind so many of EweMove’s innovations such as realtime landlord reporting, 24/7 appointment bookings and online tenant applications.
Ewereka! had allowed EweMove to scale rapidly and has underpinned the rapid growth of the network since our launch.
Glenn Ackroyd – Head Shepherd
In a former life he was a property lawyer acting for lenders and landlords and battling out cases on their behalf in local courts. Glenn previously co-owned another property franchise (A Quick Sale) which went from launch to full UK coverage in 3 years, overseeing over 5,000 house sales.
Glenn’s real passion (other than Bradford City and Millionaire Shortbread) is marketing with his favourite mantra ‘There’s no such thing as good marketing. Only good testing’.
Simon Wraw – CFO
AKA ‘Captain Sensible’ – He’s the steady hand at the tiller who won’t close down any spreadsheet without adding a ‘contingency’, “Just to be safe”.
Passionate about getting things done Simon has many years of city experience working in some of the UK’s largest global banks. Cutting his teeth running mortgage teams in his younger days to over 20 years of experience in senior finance roles leading international teams in companies like Barclays and Standard Chartered. Experience covered not just the “front end” banking operations but behind the scenes in areas like IT, Real Estate and Middle Office (yes that includes call centres in India!) – typically helping to ensure they hit their numbers and had grounded plans and strategy.
Sarah Briggs – Marketing Director
She joined EweMove after working at a Digital Marketing Agency to head up our marketing team.
Her team oversee the £2 million+ annual marketing spend of the network. We centrally manage pay-per-click, direct mail, bulk leaflet, PR and design work on behalf of our franchisees.
Paul Sheard – Franchise Development Director
A former estate agent (the suit and tie give it away) with over 30 years industry experience.
He’s responsible for training, coaching and helping franchisees successfully launch their businesses.
He was formerly the Franchise Development manager at Countrywide, Hunters and Northwood.
Hannah Pepper – Business Growth Director
Hannah has been instrumental in the incredible growth of EweMove.
She’s the point of contact for the 5,000+ franchise enquiries we get each year.
As well as answering questions and hosting regular Discovery Day events, she has a key role in determining whether or not applicants should be allowed into our flock.
Only nice ‘people people’ can cross the threshold.
Her most important role is looking after Polly – the office Sheepdog.
Polly – FD (Feline Defence)
Well actually she’s a cocker spaniel and she’s the first member of our team to greet any guests. She loves sniffing out opportunities and hunting out ways to make the Sheep Pen (that’s what we call the office) a happier place.
